Fun with Nick & Barbara: Adventures in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology

Gregory L Fisher

The continuous developments, borne over the course of 40+ years in the research groups of Nicholas Winograd and Barbara Garrison, have to a large degree defined and inexorably set the course for mass spectrometry imaging. Experimental science motivated theoretical investigation, and theoretical models demanded experimental validation. The ebb and flow of this experimental-theoretical partnership produced a parallel progression of capabilities, i.e. analytical tools, and applications, i.e. analytical subjects. This presentation will provide several snapshots in time where my path has intersected with that of Nick and Barbara; from surface physics to molecular bonding, and from materials chemistry to biology… this is a story of some of the fun I’ve experienced with Nick and Barbara.
